If you are finishing up your PhD journey, we believe that the following page could provide you some tips towards your new transition.
International Researchers Group
We have a Facebook group for international researchers who want to continue their future here in Sweden.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/514099416333952/?locale=sv_SE
The group started off with uniting international researchers to fight for residency law changes but now, the group focuses more on Visa transition from your studies to work or to settle. There is a chat/post option so if you have any questions about your residency, feel free to post! It is run by other researchers who have already done the journey to be integrated into Sweden and can give great advice.
P-hired
We organize P-hired (PhD Career Fair) every year in Spring. Please try to attend these events so that you can personally meet up with your potential new employee. If you have any ideas, please do fill out this form: https://www.kth.se/form/68f89a2b13badc5b0dca080b?l=sv so that we can hear your thoughts and inputs.
Every autumn, the new Business Liaison (business@dr.kth.se) creates a committee to help organize P-hired. Please reach out, if you are interested and want to be part of the journey.
Tips from Alumni:
“Job search can take up to 6 months. A good way to measure is using your defense date or the last day of your contract. So, depending on your priorities of your PhD journey, you can start the application process earlier or later. If you have visa challenges, it’s better to start earlier.” – EECS Alumni ‘2025.
“At 4 year mark, with some papers published, is a good time to negotiate to see if you can stay as a post-doctoral researcher in the department. The better your papers are, the better your negotiation power is.” – ABE Alumni ‘2025, re-hired as Post-Doc.
Still editing. More to come
