Get to know us!

From the personal side, hello! from the board members.

Board Member / Chairperson (Ordförande)

Hejsan! My name is Hilma Karlsson and I’m from Linköping, Sweden. I’m at SCI school, spending most of my days in the lab, focusing on quantum key distribution technologies. My hobbies are cooking dishes from all around the world, traveling and diving! My PB (personal best) for deep dives is 45m deep, without tubes.

Personal motto: ‘Just Keep Swimming’ – Dory in Finding Nemo

Board Member / Vice Chairperson (Vice Ordförande)

My name is Uli Max Rahmlow and I am from Germany. I am a PhD student at the Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems and working on hydro power modelling. I love playing and watching all kind of sports. I play active football in Stockholm and like to watch Ice Hockey games. In recent years I’ve also become interested in American football. Beside sports I love to play board games!

Fun Facts:

I like playing geoguessr, a game where you are taking randomly on google street view and need to guess where you are. Why is this fun? Because there are millions of clues from electricity poles to road quality and flora and fauna that helps to identify your location. Example: Sweden has short white dashes on the side of the road whereas Norway has long ones

I am a certified children’s football coach and I did coach youth teams for about 5 years in Germany.

Personal motto: “lagom”; not too much, not too little.

Board Member / Treasurer  (Kassör)

Name – Hemanth VenkatesanI’m from Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.

I like to be active, play sports, read books and write poems (although it has been some time since I have done that).

Personal motto – நாளை நமதே (Tomorrow is ours)

Board Member / Education Manager (Styrelseledamot)

My name is Ellymay Goossens and I was born in The Netherlands. I’m a PhD student in Organic Chemistry, mainly working on electroreductive synthesis.

I enjoy playing the piano, guitar and singing. I also like drawing and writing, taking long walks in nature, and getting lost in story-rich video games or fantasy and sci-fi books.

I never really get bored. I usually find meaning in whatever I’m doing or observing. I’ve also been told I’m a bit of a contradiction, and I don’t mind that.

Personal motto: “Step outside of your comfort zone, but stay rooted in who you are”

Board Member / Council Coordinator (Styrelseledamot)

Hi, I’m Dita from Indonesia!  I’m doing my PhD in Electric Power Engineering and Energy Systems, where I explore how to make electric vehicle charging smarter, even when the grid is being dramatically constrained.

When I’m not wrangling models and tariffs, you’ll find me baking cakes or painting with watercolors. I love how the colors blend beautifully, even when I have no idea what I’m doing.

I came from 30°C sunshine to -10°C darkness and still chose to stay. That’s how much I love research. Or…maybe I just really like kanelbullar

Personal motto: Progress, not perfection

Board Member / Business Liaison (Styrelseledamot)

Kamila, Prague, Czechia. Accident Tolerant Fuels, Division of Nuclear Physics and Engineering, SCI school

Knitting, dancing, aerial hoop.

Loves cats, hates wearing trousers

Personal motto: It’s always tea time!

Board Member / Workgroups Manager (Styrelseledamot)

My name is Ivo, I’m originally from a small town in the Netherlands called Varsseveld. Maybe some die-hard football fans might know it as birthplace of football trainer Guus Hiddink, but else it’s just a quiet, rural village near the German border. I’m in the Transport Planning division (part of ABE) where I research how we can use modular self-driving cars as public transportation.

I enjoy being outside when the sun shines. Running, cycling (being Dutch you’re pretty much born on a bike), and wandering through cities or nature. If there is no sun to see, I enjoy playing board games, especially ones that require a well thought-out strategy.

I once won a bronze medal at the European championships of concrete canoeing. As a true transportation geek, I used to know the train timetable of the city where I lived after graduation out of the top of my head (I didn’t manage that yet in Stockholm tho). I possess the useless talent to remember lyrics of weird songs after just hearing it one time

Personal motto: One person can make a difference, and everyone should try (allegedly attributed to JFK)

Board Member / Webmaster (Styrelseledamot)

My name is Kaung Myat and I am originally from Myanmar. I am doing my PhD in Material Science and Engineering with focus on metals under very high speed and extreme environments.I love reading books, playing video games, and staying fit. You will often see me on sunny Sundays at Slussen, reading a book or feeding nuts to ducks. I will start bouldering soon with a close friend, I used to do a lot of rock climbing.

I can understand 6 languages and have lived in 4 different countries. I have built 2 companies and I am currently having a short pause on my third one since I am exploring my life in Stockholm.

Personal motto: “You have to make the luck happen.”

ABHILASH, MARKELLA, PEILING! You’re MIA.
