PhD Pub tonight!

PhD Pub opens at 20:00 tonight, let’s have a drink together!

We are in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29. One member can invite up to one guest without membership (usual 50:50 ratio).

If you are a PhD student from EES, CSC or ICT school, please come earlier for your EECS PhD student council elections.

PhD Chapter extra meeting and elections

It’s soon time for a PhD Chapter’s extra meeting! We will convene on Thursday January 25th at 17:30 in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29.

This meeting will host elections for:

  • Vice chairperson, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.26 to 2018.06.30;

All the nominations can be made by email at board [at] dr.kth.se until January 22nd at 23:59 following the instructions on this page. A nomination will only be valid if the nomination committee will have interviewed the candidate (on Skype is OK) before the chapter meeting. A person can nominate someone else, but then the nominee must accept the nomination and get interviewed before it is considered valid.

EECS School / Election party

Dear PhD Students and PostDocs of new EECS School,

The PhD Chapter, on behalf of their local representatives of PhD Student Councils at CSC, EES and ICT schools, kindly invite you on January 19th at 17:00 in our PhD PubT-Centralen” (Drottning Kristinas väg 29) to the first EECS PhD Student Council Election Party!

The EECS School is officially formed. Since 1st of January 2018 all the members of CSC, EES and ICT are a part of EECS. PhD Councils of former schools have made a decision to merge into one unit. We kindly invite PhD students and Post Docs to become a part of PhD Council of EECS.

Agenda:

17.00: food will be served and the PhD Pub will be open for the purchase of drinks

17.45: the elections for Chairperson will start, followed with election of the PhD Council members

20.00: elections conclude and the Pub is open for the public and guests from the other schools

Visit to Skansen on December 24th

Are you interested in knowing more about Swedish history and culture? Then come to Skansen on Sunday December 24th. Per Westerlund (PhD student at EES/ETK) will show you different kinds of farmhouses and other buildings from all around Sweden and tell you more about Swedish culture. Unfortunately the buildings are not open, but we can see the differences between the provinces. We can also have a look at the animals, both wild and domestic.

The visit will start at 11.00 from the main entrance and will at least last until 13.00, when the seals are fed. The entry is free on that day. Bring warm clothes.

PhD Chapter’s winter meeting 2017

It’s soon time for the PhD Chapter’s winter meeting! We will convene on Tuesday December 5th at 17:00 in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29.

As per tradition, after the meeting we will have our annual Christmas Party with Julbord. 20 SEK for members, 50 SEK for nonmembers, cash only. For the occasion, we will play a special “PhD Santa” game. Please, bring a small gift (suggested value between 20 SEK and 40 SEK) wrapped in paper and get ready to receive yours!

At the meeting, past and future activities will be presented, and elections hosted for:

  • Treasurer, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Additional board member, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Web and communication manager, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.12.31;
  • Standard bearer, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.12.31;
  • Vice standard bearer, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.12.31;
  • Nominating committee members, from 3 to 5 positions to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.12.31;
  • FR representative, 1 position to be occupied from 2018.01.01 to 2018.06.30;

Important: Nominations for Web and communication manager, Nominating committee members, Vice standard bearer and FR representative (unfilled positions after previous nomination deadline) can be still made by email at board [at] phd.ths.kth.se. See the elections page for more info. PhD Chapter Summer Meeting election results

The PhD Chapter Summer Meeting confirmed Andrea de Giorgio (ITM school / Production Engineering dept.) as Chairperson for 2017/18 and elected Bahram Saadatfar (ITM school / Energy Technology dept.) as Vice Chairperson for 2017/18.

The Meeting elected as Board Members for 2017/18:

  • Elena Malakhatka (ITM school / Energy Technology dept.)
  • Tage Mohammadat (Nickname: Taj – ICT school / Electronics dept.)
  • Abdullah Kahn (ABE school / Civil and Architectural Engineering dept.)
  • Muhammad Afzal (ITM school / Energy Technology dept.)
  • Antonio Adaldo (EE school / Automatic Control dept.)
  • Milan Jocevski (ITM school / Industrial Economy dept.)
  • Fareed Ashraf Khan (ITM school / Materials Science and Engineering dept.)
  • Cong Wang (ABE school / Civil and Architectural Engineering dept.)

A Treasurer is vacant, but the Meeting gave mandate to the Board to designate one between their members.

The Meeting elected as Auditors for 2017/18 Johan Gärdebo (ABE school / History of Science, Technology & Environment division) and Omard Shafqat (ITM school / Energy Technology dept.).

Kateryna Morozovska (EE school / Electromagnetic Engineering dept. / RCAM group) was elected as Master of Ceremonies 2017/18.

Qingyun Liu (BIO school / Theoretical Chemistry and Biology dept.) was elected as Event Manager 2017/18.

Suha Babikir Kambalawi Hasan (Industrial PhD student – ABE school / Urban Planning and Environment dept. / Urban and Regional Planning division) as Graphic Desinger 2017/18.

The new board and functionaries will start working from July 1st 2017.

PhD Chapter Summer Meeting and BBQ

Are you ready for the PhD Chapter Summer Meeting? We will convene on Thursday June 8th at 17:00 in a first meeting, and at 17:15 in a second meeting, in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29.

The summer meeting is followed by the PhD Chapter annual BBQ.

The last date to sign up for the BBQ is June 6th, 2017.

Bring your THS member card and join for both the meeting and the dinner. The dinner will cost 20 SEK for THS members and 50 SEK for non-members. Our members will also have the chance to get a PhD Chapter pin.

The summer meeting meeting will decide on some changes in the PhD Chapter Statutes and will host elections for:

  • Chairperson, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Vice chairperson, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Treasurer, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Board Members, 7 positions to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30 (Note that the PhD Chapter Board includes Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Treasurer, for a total of 10 members);
  • Auditors, 2 positions to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to (at least) 2018.12.31;
  • Deputy Auditor, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to (at least) 2018.12.31;
  • Master of Ceremonies (Klubbmästare), 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Event Manager, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30;
  • Graphic Designer, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.07.01 to 2018.06.30.

Winners of Kamratstipendiet 2017

On May 15th KTH Stipendierådet has signed the decision for Kamratstipendiet 2017 to the most active THS chapter members. If you hadn’t heard anything before about Kamratstipendiet, read more here and here.

The winners at our PhD Chapter are……………!!!

They are sharing the price of 2’423,00 SEK in three: 808,00 SEK each. The nominees have been selected by our Committee for Kamratstipendiet 2017, over a list of candidates proposed by our chapter members. The decision from KTH Stipendierådet is attached here.

The PhD Chapter is looking for two Auditors and a Deputy Auditor

Do you know well the PhD Chapter activities and have familiarity with some no-profit organization bookkeeping? Are you comfortable about checking other people’s work and suggesting the right thing to do when they fail to see it? If life for you is not just about studying for your PhD, then come and join our team as the new PhD Chapter Auditor or Deputy Auditor!

Checking that everything works as expected at the PhD Chapter is essential. If you know what we are talking about, you are the right person to apply for it.

The PhD Chapter needs to elect 2 (two) Auditors and 1 (one) Deputy Auditor.

Send the application to board [at] phd.ths.kth.se specifying: name, contact information (email and phone), school and department information, which position you apply for (in this case “Auditor” or “Deputy Auditor”), a short summary of why you would like to join such position (50-100 words) and include a list of previous experiences if available.

Note that this position is not time-compensated from KTH because it doesn’t include student representation tasks. The position lasts until the PhD Chapter Board is freed from responsibilities (typically 1,5 years after the election).

The PhD Chapter is looking for a Master of Ceremonies
