Elections for nominating committee

At the PhD Chapter extra meeting on February 14th, it has been decided to delegate elections of further members of the PhD Chapter nominating committee (composed of max five members) to the board meeting on February 28th. Therefore nominations are open again!

All the nominations can be made by email at board [at] phd.ths.kth.se until February 27th at midnight. Candidates will be required to show up at the board meeting on February 28th at 16:00 on KTH Main Campus for the elections. Further details about the board meeting location will be sent by private email.

Committee for Kamratstipendiet 2017

The Committee for Kamratstipendiet 2017 is now composed of 4 members: Annaclaudia Montanino, Omar Shafqat, Abdullah Khan and Seyed Arash Safavi Nick. It works from February 14th 2017 (election date) until April 5th 2017 to elect 1, 2 or 3 winners for Kamratpriset 2017. The final nominations will be sent to THS. THS will announce the winner(s) and deliver the prize(s). Members of the Committee for Kamratstipendiet cannot propose nominees for the prize (their nominations will be considered not valid) or be nominated for the prize.

During the PhD Chapter extra meeting on February 14th 2017 the members’ nominees for Kamratstipendiet 2017 were announced. Nominees are: Muhammad Afzal, Omar Shafqat (in conflict because member of the committee), Kateryna Morozovska, Armin Weckmann, Andrea de Giorgio and Johan Gärdebo. Nominees are not (yet) winners!

Kamrtatstipendiet was established in 1912 to identify and reward good fellows at each chapter of THS, the Student Union at KTH. Each chapter has the right to nominate up to three members who share the prize money. The price is the return from the “Stiftelsen Tekniska Hogskolans i Stockholm Kamratstipendiefonder” and is usually between 40 000 and 60 000 SEK. The price is then divided evenly between the sections (around 2000-3000 SEK per chapter), after which it is distributed evenly between those students who have been nominated by the chapter.

PhD Chapter extra meeting – February 2017

It’s soon time for a PhD Chapter’s extra meeting! We will convene on Tuesday February 14th at 17:00 in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29.

During the meeting will be announced the nominees for Kamratstipendiet 2017. Kamrtatstipendiet was established in 1912 to identify and reward good fellows at each chapter of THS, the Student Union at KTH. Each chapter has the right to nominate up to three members who share the prize money. The price is the return from the “Stiftelsen Tekniska Hogskolans i Stockholm Kamratstipendiefonder” and is usually between 40 000 and 60 000 SEK. The price is then divided evenly between the sections (around 2000-3000 SEK per chapter), after which it is distributed evenly between those students who have been nominated by the chapter.

Please, register for the meeting and send your nomination for Kamratstipendiet 2017 here before February 12th. Sandwiches will be offered at the meeting.

This meeting will also host elections for:

  • Vice chairperson, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.02.14 to 2017.06.30;
  • Web and communication manager, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.02.14 to 2017.12.31;
  • Vice standard bearer, 1 position to be occupied from 2017.02.14 to 2017.12.31;
  • Additional nominating Committee members, 1-3 positions to be occupied from 2017.02.14 to 2017.12.31;
  • Committee for Kamratstipediet, 3-5 positions to be occupied from 2017.02.14 until 2017.04.05. Note: Members of the Committee for Kamratstipendiet cannot propose nominees for the prize (their nominations will be considered not valid) or be nominated for the prize.

All the nominations can be made by email at board [at] phd.ths.kth.se or at the chapter meeting, with exception for the nominations for the vice chairperson position. This one will be valid only if the nomination committee will have interviewed a candidate (on Skype is OK) before the chapter meeting, so the nominations must be sent by email before February 10th at midnight. A person can nominate someone else, but then the nominee must accept the nomination before it is considered valid.

Be part of the PhD pubs and fun activities

Are you interested in organizing the PhD pubs and other fun activities with the PhD Chapter?

The position of Master of Ceremonies (klubbmästare) is up for grabs for 2017-2018 (starting in July). The position, the most fun and social experience, that can lighten up you KTH experience and brings you loads of experience of a slightly different flavor than the time spent in lab, entails organizing different events, managing the pub and organizing the team of other fun loving people to work with. If you would like to hear more about the ins and outs of the position please contact our historically existing Master of Ceremonies at omars [at] kth [dot] se.

Additionally, in case you would just like to work at the pubs the PhD Chapter is offering three training positions for FEST and STAD certifications. These trainings are a pre-requisite in order to be able to arrange the pubs.

FEST covers various topics such as fire safety and the various rules at KTH covering organization of events. It will be held on 13-14th of February 18:00 – 22:00.

STAD which is organized by various authorities covers the issues related to alcohol laws, health and conflict management workshop will be held on 20th and 22nd of February 16:00 – 21:00.

PhD Chapter’s winter meeting

PhD Chapter's Winter Meeting

It’s soon time for the PhD Chapter’s winter meeting! We will convene on Tuesday December 13th at 17:00 in “T-centralen”, Drottning Kristinas väg 29.

As tradition, after the meeting we will have our annual Christmas Party with Julbord. 20 SEK for members, 50 SEK for nonmembers, cash only. For the occasion, we will play a special “PhD Santa” game. Please, bring a small gift (suggested value between 20 SEK and 40 SEK) wrapped in paper and get ready to receive yours!
