Mindfulness with the PhD Chapter!

There are plenty of health risks related to stress. However, researchers at universities are one of the groups who experience extensive stress (including us!). How can we handle stress properly and improve our mental wellbeing as well as productivity at work?

Come and join the mindfulness workshop organized by the PhD Chapter! Fika will be offered during the workshop.

The workshop will cover:

  1. How to deal with stress and negative emotions;
  2. How to practice mindfulness/ meditation/ MBSR;
  3. How to be mindful in digital age;
  4. How to use digital tech to support mental wellbeing.

Biosketch of the instructor (short):

Miguel Quintana’s passion is to share useful mindfulness-based approaches to be applied in daily life settings. Miguel is PhD in Psychology (Complutense University of Madrid), and holds a Master Degree in Health Sciences (University of Tsukuba, Japan). Miguel is specialized in MBSR

and mindfulness, having received his training at University of Massachusetts (Center for Mindfulness). Miguel has guided mindfulness workshops and MBSR programs for stressed workers, fibromyalgia and cancer patients and in educational and corporate settings since 2007.

Miguel Quintana is the founder of http://www.mindfulnets.org and creator of Mindfulness TS apps for online research and training in mindfulness.

Do you like to improve your research writing skills by participating in a 10-day 3.0-credits course from an entirely different perspective?

Karolinska Institute offers KTH PhD students an opportunity to participate in Scientific Writing courses.  The course consists of two parts: scientific writing and popular science writing. The focus is on scientific writing (manuscript, abstract and poster). The popular science writing is covering the skills you need in order to successfully write a popular science summary for a project plan or in order to apply for grants.

Details:

  • Course name: Write your research results and get them published, Course code: 2618, Doctoral level.
  • Organised by: Department of Women’s and children’s health; Karolinska Institutet.
  • Course mode and schedule: full-time as follows 7-18 Nov and 28 Nov – 9 Dec.
  • Deadline is when the class is full.
  • Place: City of Stockholm, in Gamla Brogatan (close to Hötorget).
  • Selection of students: Selection will be based on 1) the relevance of the course syllabus for the applicant’s doctoral project (according to written motivation), 2) date for registration as a doctoral student (priority given to LATER registration date).
  • The credits can be transcribed; as several students from KTH had this course before.

Swedish a-kassa (unemployment benefit) – SULF Day at KTH

PhD candidates always want to know information about the Swedish a-kassa (unemployment benefit) and what happens when project funds run out.

Welcome to SULF Day at KTH Campus on October 6th, from 12:00 to 14:00, in room E36 (Map location), where experts from SULF will give you more information and answer questions.  The meeting will be held in English.
